'No Way Jose' Illuminated Headboard Design by Lana Zellner in collaboration with Karen Zellner
Illuminated Headboard
Contracted to create an interesting and unique headboard, our intent when designing this headboard was to create something playful, sophisticated and interactive; something the client and audience could relate to on many levels. The whimsical and contemporary essence was accomplished by creating a pair of complex light boxes. Providing a reading light, a focal point of a bedroom, and the means to alter the atmosphere of the space it occupies at the whim of the occupants.
This piece is reminiscent of something we all remember and enjoyed as kids. We chose a 'Lite Bright-esque' theme because it is one of the most beloved toys of our childhood that seem to be fading out in popularity with contemporary children and parents. Perhaps for the reason that the parts are tiny enough to go up your nose, yet definitely big enough to choke on, and at the same time spiked at one end allowing you to poke your eye out. While these little pegs may pose a threat to the children of today they still remain a symbol of our creative outlet and proved to be essential to our headboard design.
