Philadelphia School of Dance Design by Lana Zellner
Spring Rendering - Dance School housing sunken coutyard, performance space, and outdoor gallery space
The major goal for the dance studio was to break up the program to create an entryway to the space under the Ben Franklin Bridge. With Philadelphia's Old City art scene to the south and trendy Northern Liberties to the North, the site at 3rd & Arch St. showed great promise toward making the walk from one neighborhood to the next a little nicer. We separated the dance school from the performance space to create an architectural frame that visitors could walk through, transitioning from one neighborhood to the next. This allowed us to bring some life to the dreary space under the Ben Franklin Bridge. Outdoor performance areas as well as space for art work to be displayed were incorporated into the project allowing for cultural events to take place in the space year round.
