Modern Laziness Design by Lana Zellner

Textile Pattern

This project was designed as a critique of the way many of us choose to spend our time, filling out minds and bellies with products that benefit no one but the corporations that create them.

This reupholstered LeCorbusier love seat serves as a metaphor for the machine, and the way it has, as Corb predicted, changed the modern world. The fabric, designed as a victorian-esque' print, consists of images of mass produced items that change the way society looks, thinks, and acts. Televisions, hot dogs, McDonald's logos, guns and celebrities, scatter the couch almost completely unnoticed, camouflaged as something we see every day, textile. A warning Label is printed prominently on the arm of the sofa "WARNING: Some side effects of the couch may include: heart disease, obesity, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, low energy levels, drops in metabolism, depression, procrastination, lack of ambition, exponential laziness, and being eaten by the couch."
